Strength in Every Step
The aim of the charity is to encourage people living with cancer, or in remission, as well as their family and friends, to get involved in walking football. Playing in matches organised by the charity will help them remain fit, cope with treatment, and enjoy friendship and support.
What is TLH Kicking Cancer?
TLH Kicking Cancer was founded in memory of Tony Linforth-Hall, who battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with strength and determination.
Walking Football, played by men and women over 50, was a vital part of his journey, helping him stay fit, connected, and supported by his team. He wanted others affected by cancer to enjoy the same benefits, and his vision is now a reality.

What is walking football?
- A slower-paced version of football for over-50s, suitable for those recovering from illness or looking to stay active.
- No running!
- Usually played on smaller pitches about the size of a tennis court, commonly used by five-a-side teams.
- No physical contact, such as tackling from behind, allowed.
- The ball cannot travel above shoulder height (waist height in the case of TLH Kicking Cancer). No heading of the ball allowed.
- In addition, we have the “three-touch rule”. A player has to pass the ball after three touches. This makes play more inclusive, encouraging teamwork and movement.

| Tony’s inspiration from Walking Football In 2019 Tony Linforth-Hall, a retired advertising executive and active community campaigner, was diagnosed with a blood cancer, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Thanks to walking football, which Tony had been playing for several years, he was fit and strong at the time of his diagnosis. He kept going with the sport and found that it made a tremendous difference to him. Because Tony remained fit, he was able to cope with treatment more successfully. He also had the comfort and support of his team. People living with cancer can become very introspective, but Tony’s involvement with his club ensured that this never happened to him. Tony said walking football had prolonged his life, and he remained engaged until he sadly died in 2023. Convinced that other cancer patients could benefit too, he devised Kicking Cancer. |
